Blues Brothers 2000 / Blues Brothers 2000. © Universal. D: John Landis. SC: Dan Aykroyd, John Landis. DP: David Herrington. CAST: Dan Aykroyd (Elwood Blues), John Goodman (Mighty Mack McTeer), Joe Morton (Cabel Chamberlain), J. Evan Bonifant (Buster), Aretha Franklin, James Brown, B.B. King + an all star R&B cast. 123’. 1,85. MPAA 35812. PG-13. Finnish / Swedish subtitles by Janne Staffans. DIST: UIP Finland. Viewed in Helsinki, VET, Wednesday 15 April 1998. *** Sequel to Blues Brothers (1980). Elwood Blues is released from prison and at once he’s at it again, creating a band and raising hell. The music is even better this time, and the viewer who’s expecting strong R&B performances will be rewarded. The comedy is the weaker element. A big budget is no guarantee of big laughs. Here’s another soundtrack that I’d love to hear again: a great mix of standards and lesser-known but equally thrilling tracks.
