F. W. Murnau's mighty tomb. Südwestkirchhof Stahnsdorf, Potsdam. Bust by sculptor Ludwig Manzel. Behind the facade is the entrance to the underground crypt with the coffins. When I visited it, the cemetery had been abandoned for decades, and nature had taken over. Deer walked in the forest. During the Cold War, the graveyard had remained in an uninhabited East German zone bordering West Berlin. Years later, Satanist graverobbers stole Murnau's skull. Photo: A.
