AA: Clint Eastwood is in great form in Juror #2, a sober and distinguished courtroom drama. Like Anatomy of a Fall, it confronts issues of sexual bias. Judges and prosecutors are increasingly women. Previously the bias was male. Might the bias be reversed today?

Eastwood faces the subject with nuance and complexity. The accused seems like an obvious case of toxic masculinity. But did he murder his girlfriend Kendall Carter?

The jury is almost unanimous. Only Justin Kemp (Nicholas Hoult) argues for a not guilty verdict. Another juror, retired detective Harold (JK Simmons) also finds room for reasonable doubt, and possible confirmation bias.

In the beginning of the trial Justin Kemp realizes to his horror that he himself might be the guilty one. During the rainstorm at night his car bumped into something on a narrow bridge with a "DEER XING" traffic sign. Justin stepped out of the car, saw nothing and believed he had hit a deer. Because he is a recovering alcoholic and had visited a bar before the accident, although he did not drink, nobody would believe he was sober.

Juror #2 is a suspense-filled case study, but in an original way, the greatest suspense is about the system itself, the practice and essence of justice. Juror #2 is not only about this particular verdict but about the general process of pursuing justice - truth - a better insight in the mystery of the human being. It is also about the capability to change and change one's views.

The story takes place in Savannah, Georgia. Clint Eastwood displays sympathy and affection in the life of the community. A death like this affects everybody.
