Viewed at Cinema Orion, Helsinki, 16 Sep 2009. - In the presence of Jussi Brofeldt. - The intertitles have a literary value. Timber floating. The birch stocks form a jam. Lunch break of the lumberjacks. The stocks are rolled down the hill into the river. A pipe is built for the stocks. Beams. Bundles. Shadow of the cinematographer. Sunset.

In the Core of the Documentary Film (press conference)
Cinema Orion, Helsinki, 18 Aug 2009. - Ilkka Kippola and Jari Sedergren's magnificent book Dokumentin ytimessä. Suomalaisen dokumentti- ja lyhytelokuvan historia 1904-1944 [In the Core of the Documentary Film. The History of Finnish Documentary and Short Film 1904-1944] was published. It is one of the most important Finnish film books of the decade, full with discoveries of a little-charted territory. Among the audience were notables such as Sven Hirn, Jörn Donner, and Peter von Bagh. Three short films were screened:

Jääkärin morsian
Jägarens brud / [The Yagher's Bride]. FI 1931. PC: Sarastus. D: Kalle Kaarna. Based on the music play by Sam Sihvo (1921). DP: Heikki Aho and Björn Soldan. Starring Tauno Palo (Martti), Hanna Taini (Sabina), Ella Eronen (Sonja Strand). 101 min. The almost complete print found in Michigan by the AFI in 1998. Silent film with a full music score and some song inserts, Finnish / Swedish intertitles. Viewed in Cinema Orion, Helsinki, 20 August 2008. - Tauno Palo Centenary. - The first film appearance of Finnish cinema's hero number one. - I checked the first half hour of the uneven film with three strong starring debut performances: Tauno Palo, Hanna Taini, Ella Eronen.
