Cinema Orion, Helsinki (Helsinki Day), 12 June 2011.
First revisited the ending of the Helsinki documentary programme (Helsinki Aesthetics) compiled by Ilkka Kippola and Jari Sedergren, ending with Jaakko Talaskivi's spoof documentary Helsinki-katsaus 1988 including a review of the city's pissoirs.
Then revisited the beginning of Singin' in the Rain. "Dignity, always dignity". Singin' in the Rain is one of the greatest musicals, and as usually in musicals, the production numbers are the thing. I have always had difficulties with the clichéd parodical account of the transition from silent to sound film in Singin' in the Rain. The colour is still fine in this 1988 Urania photochemical re-release print.
