Iola Baines (GCM 2026): "Poor Jerry is feeling under the weather, shivering with cold and sneezing theatrically. His long-suffering live-action animator prescribes fresh air and sunshine, and Jerry seizes the chance of an exotic spell in the sun, where he sweats it out and starts to get into the holiday spirit. His shady palm tree, however, turns out not to be quite the balmy blessing he expects." – Iola Baines
AA: Made with an approach dating back to Max Fleischer's Out of the Inkwell, we see the drawing board on which the cartoon dog Jerry emerges. The relationship between the artist and his creation is essential. A transition from an idea to its realization happens in an instant. The artist's window is ajar, Jerry catches a cold, cures it by going to hot Egypt, but in the sweltering desert sweats profusely and risks getting a cold anew. The Finnish saying "Niin tai näin, aina väärinpäin" is untranslatable but means "any which way, it's always the wrong way". Simplicity itself, reduced in the extreme, the ideas are conveyed in ascetic but vivid line drawings.
Camille Pissarro: "It is only by drawing often, drawing everything, drawing incessantly, that one fine day you discover to your surprise that you have rendered something in its true character."
